# Chat specialists

> Optional expert modes your team can attach to individual web-chat conversations — off by default, enabled per organization by an admin.

Web chat starts every conversation with a standard, general-purpose
assistant. **Specialists** are optional expert modes a user can attach to an
individual conversation: attaching one adds focused instructions and extra
tools for that conversation only. Nothing changes for anyone else, and
nothing changes by default.

## Available specialists

| Investment Advisor | Investment-grade research on private companies and funds: company, fund, contact, and team lookups across AI Reserve's market datasets (including contact details enriched from third-party data providers), comparable analysis, and diligence questions. |

The catalog is maintained by AI Reserve and grows over time; there is no
custom specialist editor today.

## Turning specialists on (admins)

Specialists are **off for every organization until an enterprise admin
enables them**, one by one:

1. Open **Admin → your organization → Privacy & data**.
2. In the **Web chat** section (specialists require web chat to be enabled),
check each specialist you want to make available.

Unchecking a specialist takes effect within about a minute: conversations
that had it attached fall back to the standard assistant on their next
message — nothing breaks and no history is lost.

## Using a specialist (everyone)

1. In the chat composer, open the **Specialist** picker next to the model
picker (it only appears when your organization has at least one
   specialist enabled).
2. Pick a specialist — or **None** for the standard assistant, which is
   always the default.

The choice sticks to that conversation and applies from your next message. An
active specialist shows as a chip at the top of the conversation, so it is
never ambiguous which mode you are in. Switching back to **None** at any
point returns that conversation to the standard assistant.

## Privacy and billing

Specialists change the assistant's instructions and available tools —
nothing else. Model choice, data-source toggles, content-retention settings,
usage metering, and billing are all unchanged.

Two things worth knowing before enabling a specialist:

* **Tools reach shared datasets.** A specialist's lookup tools query AI
Reserve's market datasets, which draw on third-party data providers —
including contact details such as emails and phone numbers. The admin
checkbox for each specialist describes exactly what it adds.
* **Tool lookups are separate from model usage.** Specialist tool calls hit
data providers directly and do not appear on the model-usage meter; only
the assistant's model responses are metered as usual.
